Born in Iwate, Japan, Hiroo Sato is studying in the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Prof. Eliso Virsaladze. He graduated the Tokyo College of Music and the Graduate School of Tokyo College of Music. There he studied under Prof. Kazuko Sumi and Prof. Minoru Nojima.

 

In 2004, he played in the 14th Japan and Germany Young Artists Interchange Concert, and also he performed for the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen and Brandenburg in Germany as an invitation player in 2005. In 2008, he participated in the 17th International Music Festival “Young Prague” as a soloist.

 

He has performed with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gunma Symphony Orchestra, the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra.

1st Minoru Nojima Yokosuka Piano Competition: 1st prize

 

2007

76th The Music Competition of Japan: Winner 1st prize, additionally awarded with the Nomura Prize, Iguchi Prize and Kawai Prize.

4th Sendai International Music Competition (Japan): 3rd prize

 

2011

5th San Nicola di Bari International Piano Competition (Italy): 1st prize, additionally winning the Special Prize ‘Franz Liszt 2011’

 

2015

21st Ricard Vines International Piano Competition (Spain): 2nd prize

 

2016

62nd Maria Canals Barcelona International Music Competition (Spain): 1st prize, additionally awarded with ‘Granados Prize’
